Marco Attilio Regolo or more correctly, Marco Atilio Regolo (Marcus Atilius Regulus), was a Roman statesman who lived in the third century BC. He was appointed consul twice, in 267 and 256 BC.

When Attilio Regolo was elected consul for the second time, Rome has been at war with Carthage for eight years already. After the battle of Capo Ecnomo the Romans entered the Carthaginian territory but were defeated in Tunis, and Attilio Regolo himself was taken prisoner.

Rome then sent a large contingent of soldiers to North Africa and, after some overwhelming victories, the Carthaginians found themselves forced to send Attilio Regolo himself as ambassador of peace.

The Roman, however, did not plead the cause of the Carthaginians, but rather incited his compatriots to fight with greater fervor. Then, as he promised, he returned to Carthage where he was tortured and killed by the Carthaginians. The first Punic war will end with the Roman victory in 242 BC.
