Animalia, Galleria Paolo Antonacci Rome, May 2023, entry n. 4.

Eugène Joseph Verboeckhoven was a Belgian painter born in Warneton in West Flanders.

He was a painter, sculptor, engraver and lithographer of animals, figured landscapes and portraits, who studied under his father, Barthélemy Verboeckhoven, also a sculptor.

In 1816 he worked under Voituron in Ghent, and regularly showed his work at the Salons of Ghent (1820 and 1824) and Brussels (1827–60). He visited the Ardennes, France, Great Britain (in 1826), Germany (in 1828) and Italy.

He was a member of the Academies of Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp, St. Petersburg and Amsterdam.
